Mr. Cherupuspalayam Sebastian Stanley, fondly known as C.S. Stanley, is a towering figure in global commerce, whose journey spans over six decades. From his early beginnings in the navy to becoming a highly respected CEO and Managing Director of the Butterworth Group of Companies, his life story is one of courage, resilience, and visionary leadership.

Naval Service and Leadership (1959-1980)


1959-1964: Indian Navy
Stanley’s professional life began in the Indian Navy, where he served on a warship and played an active role in significant military operations, including the liberation of Goa. His naval service instilled in him the values of discipline, leadership, and resilience—traits that would later define his career in business.

1964-1980: Merchant Navy
After completing his tenure with the Indian Navy, Stanley transitioned to the Merchant Navy, where he spent 16 years navigating the world’s oceans. During this time, he built a strong foundation in maritime logistics, gaining invaluable knowledge of global shipping routes and establishing key contacts in the shipping industry.

Transition to Global Shipping, Seafood and Commodity Trading (1980-Present)

1980-1983: General Manager, Worldlink Shipping Pvt. Ltd.
Following his Merchant Navy career, Stanley took on the role of General Manager at Worldlink Shipping Pvt. Ltd. in Mumbai, under the leadership of the esteemed Late Captain Rex Gomez. In this position, Stanley managed global shipping operations, and further honed his managerial skills, preparing him for the challenges of entrepreneurship.

n the early 1983s, Stanley embarked on a new venture as a seafood exporter in Quilon and Visakhapatnam, India. With his extensive knowledge of maritime logistics, he quickly established himself as a key player in the industry, traveling extensively along the Indian coast and building a vast network of suppliers and buyers. His expertise in seafood positioned him as a leading exporter, well-known across the entire Indian coastline.

A Global Entrepreneur: Travels and Business Ventures


Stanley’s vision of global trade saw him constantly on the move, meeting clients and forging relationships across continents. His extensive travels included:

Middle East & Africa:
He established trading links in Yemen, Oman, and Kuwait, and expanded into East and West Africa, including Tunisia and Ethiopia. His ability to connect with diverse markets made him a prominent figure in these regions.

Asia-Pacific:
Stanley’s ventures took him to the heart of the Asia-Pacific markets, where he developed robust relationships in Japan, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, and Australia. His knowledge of the seafood industry, coupled with his commitment to quality, helped him secure a foothold in these highly competitive markets.

Europe and the Americas:
Stanley continued to expand into Holland, Poland, the UK, and the Scandinavian countries. His travels to Canada, North America, and South America further solidified his status as a global trader.
